26 Mar Porto dans le viseur de Manoel de Oliveira
A few months ago, I was contacted by a French journalist, from ARTE TV, to participate in a documentary about director Manoel de Oliveira and his relationship with Douro.
As some of you may already know, a few years ago, I did a research project related to the work of Manoel de Oliveira, in particular, related to the films where Douro appears on the stage, and tried to understand the ways in which the river are inserted in all his work and the consequent cultural and cinematic implications.
Porto was the birthplace of the father of Portuguese cinema, Manoel de Oliveira. From silent to talking, from black and white to color, the filmmaker films near the Douro river. The region delivers his vision of cinema, from his first realistic works to his great romantic masterpieces like Abraham’s Valley.
The documentary, Porto dans le viseur de Manoel de Oliveira, is part of a tv program called “Invitation au voyage“, hosted by Linda Lorin, who takes us around the world to discover places that have inspired artists, cities, unique cultures and invites us into many places around the world.
Finally, I must say that it was an honor to be in the same documentary with such distinguished people, such as António Preto, Ricardo Trêpa and Jorge Trêpa.
Here is the episode that aired on June 4, 2021. You can also view the video directly from the Arte TV website.
(in my humble opinion, the documentary gets much more interesting from the eleventh minute…?)
